Former well-known Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Tlumak commented on the information that Ukrainian goalkeeper of Real Madrid, Andriy Lunin, refuses to join the Ukraine national team unless he is guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.
«I have always highly valued Andriy Lunin’s level of skill. However, in this situation, he is in the wrong. It seems Lunin has forgotten: it’s not about the club with which he has a contract and can express his dissatisfaction with the lack of playing time, but about the Ukraine national team, for which defending the colors is a great honor for every footballer. And a protest of any kind is out of the question here. By doing this, you not only harm your own image but also let your national teammates down, making the team more vulnerable.
In football, as in any other sport, the sporting principle must prevail: only the strongest play. You are a substitute at Real, but that’s not a big deal, prove with your skills and attitude towards the training process in the national team that you are worthy of defending position number 1.
