Former Dnipro player Mykola Medin commented on Ukraine’s national team games in November.
— Serhiy Rebrov and his coaching staff chose a strategy not for one match, but for two. The coach understood that even the strongest players of our national team, in terms of skill, are weaker than the French, so he did not throw them into battle against the illustrious opponent. This step paid off. The main players saved their strength for the match against the Icelandic athletes. They came out fresh, energized, and, thanks to their fighting spirit, outplayed the opponent.
This qualifying cycle once again proved that Ukraine can create difficulties for itself and overcome them. In the first two rounds, we gained only one point and significantly complicated our lives. Then we threw all our energy into saving the situation. Fortunately, this time we succeeded. We are not strong enough to claim the final first place and have not reached the level that allows us to confidently fight for the second position, — said the expert.
