As previously reported, the Cypriot «Omonia,» which is the next opponent of Kyiv’s «Dynamo» in the main stage of the Conference League, suffered a defeat against «Apollon» (0:2) in an away match of the Cyprus Championship yesterday. After the conclusion of this match, Omonia’s head coach Henning Berg did not hide his disappointment with the result.
«We are, of course, disappointed with the defeat in this match. We don’t lose often (in 11 matches of the Cyprus championship, „Omonia“ won 7 times, drew 2 times, and lost 2 times, — ed. note), so when it happens, we get really upset. But I must admit that today our performance was not at the level we would like to see.
The opponent scored the first goal as a result of an excellent shot. Although before that, we had several good moments to open the score. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed.
Even when the opponent was left with one player less in the second half (from the 53rd minute of the match, — ed. note), we didn’t play as well as we could have. Yes, we had a few chances, but once again, our finishing let us down. So, I’ll say it again, we’re disappointed. We would like to have played better.
And it’s not about Apollon’s attitude. They are a good team that managed to beat „Pafos“ away. And we knew it wouldn’t be easy for us. But it’s primarily about the fact that we didn’t find the rhythm, the game that we’ve been consistently showing this season,» said Berg at the post-match press conference.
Recall, «Dynamo» will meet with «Omonia» in the next, fourth round of the main stage of the Conference League. This match will take place next Thursday, November 27, in Nicosia.
