UAF President Andriy Shevchenko spoke about the importance for the Ukrainian national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
’It would be an incredible achievement. The last time Ukraine qualified for the World Cup was exactly 20 years ago, and it was an amazing achievement for us. Now we are very close, and it would be a huge achievement for the Ukrainian national team, but more importantly, for the people in Ukraine.
It would be very important for us to be at the World Cup, as it is a major event hosted by three countries: Canada, Mexico, and the USA. I hope we can qualify.
I think it’s a good move (to expand the World Cup to 48 teams). Three large countries will host the World Cup together for the first time in history. More teams will have a chance to qualify, and I look forward to incredible matches. It will be a very competitive World Cup,' said Shevchenko, quoted by the UPL.TV Telegram channel with reference to FIFA.
