Former coach of Mynai, Nikolai Tsymbal, shared what he expects from the fourth round match of the main stage of the Conference League between the Cypriot Omonia and Kyiv’s Dynamo, which will take place today in Nicosia.
— In my opinion, the favorites in this confrontation are Omonia. When I worked in Cyprus, I often attended matches not only involving Omonia but also Pafos, which at that time was headed by the Norwegian Henning Berg — the current coach of Kyiv’s opponents. I was very impressed with the aggressive style of these teams. Focus on attack is generally characteristic of participants in the Cyprus championship, which, in terms of the preparation level of its participants, is higher than the UPL. This can be explained by the presence of a significant number of qualified foreign players in Cyprus.
— How does Omonia differ among Cypriot teams?
— They try to control the ball, are known for their activity on the flanks, and use through passes. I really like Berg’s coaching philosophy — the renowned former defender of the English club Manchester United. Therefore, Dynamo players need to be, above all, attentive near their own possessions, not neglecting coverage.
— Who would you highlight among Omonia players?
— I am impressed by the game of forwards Willy Semedo and Muamer Tankovic. Both of them, if on target, can independently decide the outcome of the confrontation.
— What result in Nicosia would be positive for Dynamo?
— If they do not lose, it will be good. Especially considering the recent personnel losses of the Kyiv team.
