The head coach of Donetsk «Shakhtar», Arda Turan, commented on his team’s victory over the Irish «Shamrock Rovers» (2:1) in yesterday’s away match of the 4th round of the Conference League group stage.
«As I said earlier, playing here will not be easy, but we started the match very well, we had prepared solutions to counter the opponent’s defense, and we managed to implement them in most cases.
Then we scored an early goal. The wind and the lack of match practice among some of our players affected the quality of the passes, but after scoring, we managed to take control of the game. Later, we dominated more, but as I said, we are playing against champions, and it was normal to occasionally give up control and face pressing.
We moved correctly on the field despite conceding a goal in the second half. We also managed to score a second goal and win the match.
Now we return with a victory — and it really means a lot to us because we tried to use all our players in attack today. We had four or five players aged 17−18, which is why this victory with them is so significant. More than the score, I’m pleased with the level of play we’re showing now.
