Shakhtar Donetsk President Rinat Akhmetov gave a description of the modern Donetsk team.
“During the long months of the war, our life has completely changed, our country has changed, the whole world has changed. Shakhtar has also changed a lot. Legionnaires left the club - players without whom six months ago it was impossible to imagine a team. But new players came - strong and talented Ukrainians, many of whom are students of our Academy.
We also invited Igor Jovicevich to the post of head coach of the team. This is a Croatian mentor with a European mentality and a Ukrainian brave heart. He is ready to be in Ukraine and, together with the Ukrainians, share all the difficulties and dangers. This deserves deep respect. Therefore, I believe in Igor and his ideas, I believe in the coaching staff, I believe in our team. I believe in the young, ambitious, Ukrainian Shakhtar. And I know that in every tournament, in every match we will fight not only for the club, but also for our country,” Akhmetov said.
