Yesterday, the match of the final, 36th round of the Latvian Championship of the 2022 season took place (the tournament is held according to the spring-autumn system). According to their results, for the first time in history, the Valmiera club from the city of the same name became the champion of the country.
In the decisive match, Valmiera beat Liepaja away (2:0), and the second contender for gold, Riga, lost to RFS at home (0:1). As a result, the final first place in the standings was taken by Valmiera, ahead of Riga by four points.
It should be noted that three Ukrainian legionnaires of this team became Latvian champions in Valmiera at once - defender Roman Yakuba (37 matches, 1 goal), as well as midfielders Ivan Zhelizko (31 matches, 4 goals) and Artur Murza (1 match, 1 goal ).
