Former president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov considers the news that Aleksander Čeferin will continue to hold the post of UEFA president to be positive for his country.
“A lot depends on the person who is in this position. The UEFA President forms the opinion of the Executive Committee and leads it. He is aware of what is happening in every football national association. It is best for us that Čeferin is president.
Alexander takes a very balanced and pragmatic position. He has never spoken and, I think, will not criticize Russia and the RFU. Čeferin follows common sense, so he does not come up with any new sanctions. They and FIFA suspended us from international competitions without naming the terms, and that was it.
If there had been someone else in Čeferin's place, then it would have been worse for us. Of the 55 European countries, 53 are not friendly to us. Imagine that a Pole, a Dutchman, a Frenchman or, even worse, an Englishman would be a candidate for the UEFA President. Thank God that Ceferin stayed, ”Metaratings quoted Koloskov as saying.
