Oleg Matveev: “I confirm the fact of exchanging me for Rebrov”

Former Shakhtar striker Oleg Matveev recalled how he moved to this club from Dynamo Kyiv in 1993, when the future legendary striker Sergei Rebrov followed in the opposite direction.

“It is true that my transfer from Dynamo to Shakhtar was an unspoken exchange for Sergei Rebrov. I later found out that this is so.

It didn't really matter to me on what conditions I transferred to Shakhtar, and who paid extra to whom. I heard that there was some kind of compensation for Rebrov. But Dynamo wanted him, and Shakhtar wanted me. It seemed to me that Rebrov was more needed than Dynamo. So I confirm the fact of such an exchange, ”said Matveev.
