Former Dynamo centre-back Carlos Zambrano spoke about the offer to play for the German national team, but turned it down.
"Now you see that they only call up a player so that he doesn't play for another national team. Maybe someone didn't have the opportunity to play for Germany, but it could have happened to me. The Germans asked me if I was interested in playing for their U-17 national team.
In Germany they give you that opportunity, when they need a player, then they are willing to do all the paperwork. But I told them that was impossible. I chose Peru despite all the adversity," said Zambrano.
At 16, Zambrano left Peru and moved to Germany, where he was at the Schalke academy for several years.
