Sassuolo and Bologna played an even Serie A match at the MAPEI - Città del Tricolore stadium, with both teams picking up a point each after a 1-1 draw. Sassuolo took the lead in the 15th minute when Domenico Berardi struck from close range. Bologna responded well and received a yellow card when Sebastian Posch was sent off in the 27th minute. The visitors continued to go forward and were eventually rewarded with a goal in the 42nd minute when Nicolas Dominguez shot past the Sassuolo goalkeeper. Sassuolo were quickly punished in the 44th minute when Maxim Lopez was shown a yellow card for an improper challenge. Both teams made tactical substitutions in the second half to try and gain an advantage.
Sassuolo released A. Lauriente and Mateus Enrique in the 66th minute in place of N. Bayrami and A. Harroui. Bologna also made changes when R. Orsolini replaced M. Arnautovic in the same minute. Sassuolo made further changes in the 76th minute when G. Defrel and D. Frattesi were replaced by A. Alvarez and K. Thorstvedt. Bologna made a second substitution in the 78th minute when Nicolas Dominguez was replaced by N. Moro. Sassuolo made a final substitution in the 82nd minute when R. Tressoldi replaced G. M. Ferrari, while Bologna released L. Ferguson in place of G. Medel in the 85th minute. Despite several attempts by both teams in the closing stages of the game, neither side could find a winner and the match ended 1-1. Sassuolo will be left regretting the missed chances, while Bologna will be happy with a point away from home.
