Renowned Ukrainian journalist Artem Frankov has commented on the appointment of Serhiy Rebrov as the head coach of the Ukrainian national team.
Artem Frankov- Sergei Rebrov's appointment is long-awaited. Our national team has finally got a permanent coach, permanent coaching staff, mostly Spanish. We had an Italian team with Andriy Shevchenko, it worked pretty good, but now there will be a Spanish one, Rebrov knows those Spaniards very well from his joint work with Dynamo Kyiv. I think there is no need to tell you who Rebrov is - you yourself know very well both his playing and coaching biographies.
I must say immediately that I think very highly of him, both as a person and as a coach. I am attracted, above all, by his willingness to work as a coach. His readiness is quite unselfish, because you cannot earn much money in Budapest, let alone in the Ukraine national team. I think he just wants to work with his national team. It is a very good patriotic impulse. Maybe in some ways he is not professional, because coaches from the clubs do not always successfully come to the national teams. But Serhiy Rebrov came, one might say, in the prime of his creative powers - and God bless us. We have absolutely no chance of participating in the European Championship, despite the presence of England and so on in our group. There will be chances yet, we will fight anyway.
For now I just wish Serhiy Rebrov every success, less politics, more football, more unity in the coaching staff, more ideas, more unity in the team itself and friendly relations. Because in the national team - it is more important than ever. You understand that the national team comes together only occasionally; that is why it is a national team, because it comes together. It is not a permanent job where you can do some individual work with every player, develop programmes, study. You say hello, practice, play and go away - that's the only way, there's no other option," Frankov said on Youtube.
