Former Ukraine forward Ivan Getsko analysed Dynamo Kyiv's game in Istanbul.
Ivan Getsko- The first match of these rivals in Bucharest gave reason to hope that, despite the disappointing 2-3 defeat, all was not lost for the Kyiv team. But already in the debut, it seemed that even the Kyiv team did not believe that they could take revenge in Istanbul.
- What do you mean by that?
- Dynamo needed a quick goal to restore the intrigue. And where could it come from when the guests were thinking only about not conceding from the first minutes. I understand perfectly well that the unreliable rear puts a lot of psychological pressure, but we had to demonstrate some persistence in the selection, intensity, and focus on the opponent's goal, rather than relying on his mistakes after long passes from our own half of the field.
In the end, did Kyiv deserve a better fate if they only hit the goal once, while the opponent, who was happy with a draw, made as many as seven accurate shots.
- While everyone is used to the mistakes of the Kyiv defence and the toothlessness of the strikers, yesterday our midfielders also lacked creativity.
- This can be explained by the fact that Shaparenko, after a serious injury, will not regain his fighting fitness, and he is the only one among Kyiv's players who can play in the middle of the field unconventionally, to give a pass in the wrong direction. We have lived to see it.
- Do you think that after another failure of Dynamo in the European competitions, it will not come to organisational conclusions?
- If I were Mircea Lucescu, I would have resigned on my own initiative a long time ago. After all, Dynamo are degrading under his leadership. But for some reason, the club management is happy with this state of affairs. On the other hand, the Romanian specialist is used to the fact that he had no problems inviting qualified legionnaires before. This is not the case at Dynamo, and the reliance on their own pupils does not pay off even in the domestic arena, where one of the giants has become an ordinary midfielder whom no one is afraid of. These are the realities.
