Head coach of Portuguese Benfica Roger Schmidt explained why after the departure of the club's main goalkeeper Odysseas Vlahodimos, he does not put Ukrainian Anatoliy Trubin in goal, but relies solely on Samuel Soares.
"When Trubin came to Benfica, I had no questions about his availability. The only thing he needed was to adapt, to integrate into our team. And Soares was already adapted, he had already been with us for a long time. That's why I chose him.
Trubin came back from the national team more confident and with a great attitude, he still needs to adapt. At the same time, I was satisfied with the team in the last matches. And Soares was important in these matches. So there is a question of competition. I will make a decision based on all factors," O Jogo quoted Schmidt as saying.
