Famous Ukrainian coach Serhiy Kovalets has spoken about Shakhtar Donetsk's opening match in the Champions League group stage against Porto (1-3).
"Last season, Shakhtar were underestimated, especially in the opening match against RB Leipzig (4-1). Young players, a new coach, a revamped team - we did not expect the Pitmen to be tourists. This season, that will no longer be the case.
"Porto took a responsible approach to the game from the first minutes, which is why the result is so disappointing. But there is no time to be upset, there is a game against Antwerp ahead, I think this match will be key for third place in the group. We need to prepare as much as possible.
Are the Shakhtar's problems in defence? I have said it many times before - defence starts with attack. It can't be that only the centre-half and defenders take part in the selection, while the rest are waiting for a pass," Kovalets said.
