Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the Merseysiders should strengthen their squad with a nominal holding midfielder.
"Liverpool are a possession-dominant team, they keep the ball a lot, but without the ball they are not as effective as Manchester City, so they have to come back more.
It seems that opponents are finding space much easier and running behind Liverpool players. With the exception of their goal, Luton didn't have the skill to really punish them.
Liverpool's midfield has improved since last season, but lacks a top-level holding midfielder. McCallister is not a top-level holding midfielder. He's good on the ball, but he struggles defensively and lacks the pace for the position.
"Liverpool are not ready to win the league. Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool fans know that right now. They want to get back into the top four. And to fight for the title again, they need a top-level holding midfielder and a top-level defender," said Jamie Carragher.
