In an interview with Tribuna.com, former Dynamo coach Maksym Shatskikh spoke about the leaders of the Kyiv club.
Maxim Shatskikh. Photo: championat.asia- In your first season at Dynamo, the team received a technical defeat for not travelling to the game against Mariupol. Who made this decision and what was the position of the coaching staff at the time?
- It was the decision of the management. We were ready to go to the last minute. We left the base, sat at home on our suitcases and waited for the signal from the management. We would have packed up and left immediately. It was no problem for us.
But I think the management knew a little more, so we were waiting for a sign from them. They said we weren't going - obviously, they knew better.
- What was it like working with Igor Surkis and how would you rate him as a manager?
- Only on the positive side. He never interferes and never gets in the way. Neither Igor Mikhailovich nor Grigory Mikhailovich. They appointed a head coach who recruits his own coaching staff. There are goals and objectives set for the team. Accordingly, there is responsibility.
But he never interferes in any processes - neither training nor any other. On the contrary, the management tries to do everything for the team. You can always contact them on any issue - they will always help, advise, direct. I'm not just talking about football issues - they also solve all everyday problems. Everything they can do for the team, they do as much as possible.
Everyone understands that in the current situation it is not so easy. But they are trying to keep the Dynamo machine running at the same level so that football continues to exist. And they will do it to the end - I know that for sure.
- Did you know what Dynamo's budget was when you were coaching?
- No, I didn't. I never got into it. I was not interested in it.
