On Saturday, 2 March, there was a match of the 27th round of the Spanish championship between Valencia and Real Madrid. The game, in which Ukrainian forward Roman Yaremchuk scored a goal, ended in a 2-2 draw.
However, this match was remembered, above all, for a huge refereeing scandal. Head referee Jesus Gil Manzano added 7 minutes of extra time to the second half. On 90+9 minutes Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham managed to score the winning goal, but just a second before the referee decided to blow the final whistle.
After that, there was chaos on the pitch as players and other Real Madrid representatives literally pounced on Manzano, demanding that he make the goal count. As a result, Bellingham received a straight red card for his emotions. The referee could not leave the field for a long time, trying to somehow explain his decision. The draw - 2:2, which can significantly affect the intrigue in the championship race this season.
We should add that Manzano is not the first time he is caught in a scandal. It was this Spanish referee who was the chief referee in the Euro 2024 qualifying match between the national teams of Ukraine and Italy. At the end of the match, he did not award an obvious penalty to the Italians for a foul in the penalty box on Mudryk.
