The moment of the highest football happiness was experienced twice by Dynamo fans in the autumn of 1975. I told about the twists and turns of the first Munich match for the European Super Cup between Bayern and Dynamo in the first part of this material. The slalom pass of the future Golden Ball winner Oleh Blokhin on the 67th minute brought Dynamo victory - 1:0.
What will the second match of these rivals prepare? Where will the Super Cup winter? These questions worried Kyiv and Munich fans for almost a month after the first meeting. Everyone was counting the days until the date of 6 October.
But first of all, what was happening on the eve of the match. On 4 October the Kyiv Dynamo Council received a telegram from Munich and its content was as follows: "We arrive on Sunday, 5 October, at 18:10. We ask you to organise training at 19:00, dinner - at 20:30. Borscht, beefsteak, salad of fresh vegetables, fat potatoes and fresh fruit. President of FC Bayern Munich Wilhelm Najdek."
On 5 October at exactly 18:10 Aeroflot's Tu-134 aircraft delivered Bayern to Boryspil airport. Captivated by the journalists, the team fought off questions from all sides. The Germans from the airport went to the Republican Stadium for training. And were surprised to see several thousand fans sitting in the stands.
On Monday - the game. Bayern coach Kramer gave his guys a few free hours on the match day. Some got acquainted with the city and bought souvenirs, others rested in the hotel room and prepared for the match.
By the way, together with Bayern players, the UEFA Super Cup, which was on display in Munich during the first match between Bayern and Dynamo on 9 September, landed in Boryspil. What was it? An impressive metre-long and almost pood (15 kg) bowl, all in gold and silver, cost 20 thousand dollars. It was a hefty sum for those times.... Its production was paid for by either Ajax Amsterdam or some Dutch philanthropist.
The idea of the Super Cup belonged to the president of Ajax Amsterdam Jalan van Praag. The aim was to determine the best team in Europe in two matches of the winners of the Champions Cup and Cup Winners' Cup. Ajax, who led the continent in the early 1970s, beat Scottish Rangers twice in 1973.
UEFA president Artemio Franchi, who was also present at the first game in Munich, flew from Rome to Kyiv. The functionary confessed to journalists at Boryspil airport: "I was going to present diplomas and medals from UEFA to the players of both teams. Alas, the suitcase containing the awards got lost somewhere on the way".
The match in Kiev, in which the fate of the trophy was decided, aroused great interest. There were 650 thousand applications to watch the game "live": 250 thousand only from Kiev, 395 - from different cities, another 5 thousand - from abroad. It was necessary to select 100 thousand of our and foreign fans from this number, to feed and drink the same number of mouths.
The data published in the Kyiv press seem implausible. At half-time the spectators ate 40 thousand sandwiches, 25 thousand bagels, 20 thousand packs of biscuits, 5150 bars of chocolate. They drank 3600 litres of kvass and 65 thousand bottles of fruit and mineral water. Also for the first time in Kiev they issued badges with the emblems of the playing teams, I have two such badges.
As in Munich, Oleg Blokhin shone in Kyiv. On the 40th minute the 11th number of Dynamo swiftly ran along the edge of the field, leaving behind his "keeper", and as soon as he saw Meyer rushing to him, he sent the ball into the bottom corner far from the goalkeeper - 1:0.
In the 53rd minute Bayern defenders knocked Blokhin down. The goal is 25 metres away. And while Muntean and Veremeev were deciding who of them to shoot a free kick, Blokhin himself shot - and the ball after his shot flew on a low trajectory, bypassing the wall, sniffing into the very corner of the gate confused Meyer - 2:0. Victory! The last minutes of the match were accompanied by a powerful chorus of 100,000 voices that could be heard far away: "Well done!" It was the star hour of Ukrainian football and Dynamo Kyiv.
Franz Beckenbauer, Bayern captain: "Not only Dynamo's left wing-back showed a super game, all his partners played great. I take the liberty to say that Kyiv club is now one of the strongest teams not only in Europe, but also in the world".
Artemio Franchi, UEFA President: "European football needs such finals - beautiful, correct, spectacular. And such winners."
French newspaper Ekip: "Kiev did not have a single stereotypical ending, the whole game without tension - in short, a performance of real football".
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport: "Dynamo showed themselves to be an original team. Their game is full of thought, skill, inspiration".
Here is the line-up of the European Super Cup winners: Rudakov, Konkov, Fomenko, Reshko, Zuev, Troshkin, Buriak, Onishchenko, Blokhin.
Friends, love football, play football, go to football - and let it give you unforgettable matches more often. Such as Dynamo players gave to all of us in 1975.
