Euro-2024 U-19. Elite round of selection. Group 7

Ukraine U-19 - Switzerland U-19 - 3: 0 (0: 0)
Goals
: Synchuk (63), Ponomarenko (68, 78).

Ukraine: Krapyvtsov, Gusev (Stryukov, 90+1), Melnychenko, Mykhavko, Ogarkov, Hadzhiev (Tuterov, 90+1), Vashchenko, Krevsun (Badenko, 84), Synchuk, Ponomarenko (Dubrovny, 84), Matkevich (Tsukanov, 71).

Switzerland: Huber, Ansho (Manzanbi, 78), Ogbus, Seiler, Deme, Okafor (Djemalia, 54), Marquez, Kessler (Vattara, 69), Benay, Ligue (Lüthi, 54), Ze (Nilakandan, 54).

Earlier, Dmytro Mykhaylenko's men defeated North Macedonia (2-0) and Latvia (3-0). The Swiss also won two games, but had a worse goal difference. Therefore, a draw in today's match in Skopje was enough for the Ukrainians to take first place in the group and a ticket to the Euros.

At the beginning of the match, Matkevych scored with a header, and soon his other attempt was blocked by his counterpart. The Swiss responded with a dangerous free-kick near the post. In the 26th minute, Synchuk scored from a sharp angle, but Huber saved his team. At the end of the first half, Mikhavko's shot was over the target after a corner. Shortly before the break, Benay took advantage of a mistake by the Ukrainian defenders, but from a deadly position he shot into the hands of Krapivtsov.

In the 55th minute, Benay again found himself in a good position, but shot over the top. The Ukrainians responded with a dangerous shot by Synchuk, which Huber pulled out in a leap. But in the 63rd minute, the same Synchuk intercepted the ball near the other team's penalty area and this time hit the back of the net to open the scoring.

The Swiss attempts to quickly get back into the game were unsuccessful. Instead, in the 68th minute, after a throw-in, Krevesun outpaced the keeper and sent the ball into the empty net of Ponomarenko. Later, Matvey scored a double, taking advantage of Mikhavko's great pass from the centre of the pitch. As a result, the Ukrainian national team won with a score of 3-0.

Thus, our guys won three victories, took first place in the group and qualified for the European Championship, which will be held on 15-28 July in Northern Ireland with the participation of eight national teams. The draw for the final tournament will take place on 17 April in Belfast.
