Legendary coach Guy Roux told Le Figaro the story of how Russian CSKA won the UEFA Cup match against Auxerre.
Guy Roux- We were robbed in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals by CSKA Moscow (0-4 defeat in Russia, 2-0 win in Auxerre in 2005). The referee was bought. After the first match I got suspicious and in the return match I asked to search the referees' bags. The guy comes back to me pale and says, "There's a wonderful watch with rubies in it."
I had ten minutes to make the right decision. Six months before that match, I had decided to stop working at Auxerre, nobody knew about it. If I decided to call the police and the authorities, they would be convicted, I would fire four German referees and I would be the guy who caused this scandal, but not the man who played 894 games in Ligue 1 and took the club to Europe. I made a decision. I didn't say anything. And I was an even bigger idiot not to steal that watch," Guy Roux said with a laugh.
In 2005, the Russian CSKA Moscow won the UEFA Cup.
