The head coach of the Romanian national team, Edward Iordanescu, has spoken about his team's objectives for Euro 2024. The Romanian national team will play in the same group as Ukraine, Belgium and Slovakia at the group stage of the tournament.
"The fact that we qualified for Euro 2024, winning our group and not losing once (Romania in the qualifying group with Switzerland, Israel, Belarus, Kosovo and Andorra got 6 wins and 4 draws - ed.), was a clear demonstration of the many positive changes of our team. And I hope that there will be even more. The European Championship will be a fantastic test for me and the young players currently assembled in the Romanian national team. We will do everything possible to reach the next level of quality of our game and prove that our potential is even greater than what was shown in the Euro qualifying cycle.
Belgium national team? It's a great team, with great players with experience of playing at the highest level and undeniable value. Moreover, as a team, the Belgian national team has international experience with excellent results over the past decades, which we unfortunately lack. But our approach is based on getting the most out of every game, regardless of the name or reputation of our opponents.
We had a goal to qualify for the European Championships, and we did that. In the upcoming tournament, we will focus on showing our best game and at the same time utilise the weaknesses of our opponents. We don't have the goal of winning the group. But, as we showed in Euro qualification, if we get the opportunity, we will do everything we can to take advantage of it.
Playing a team with a lot of young players at such an international level is both a challenge and an opportunity. Every player has to give his best to the team and strive to turn every moment into an opportunity! I have created a team and, as my players often say, it is a small family. If we manage to surprise at Euro 2024, I think we will be a surprise as a team," A Bola quoted Iordanescu as saying.
