This week the first matches of the 3rd round of the Champions League qualification round of the 2024/25 season are taking place. Dynamo Kyiv and Scottish Rangers met in one of them on Tuesday, August 6. The match was nominally a home game for the Ukrainian team, but due to the war it was held in Lublin at the Arena Lublin stadium.

"Dynamo" started this match actively, and already on the 5th minute after a corner kick Brazhko had a good opportunity to strike from the goalkeeper's area, but failed to adjust to the ball and sent it over the goal.
However, Rangers did not dwell on defensive actions either, regularly bothering Dynamo with penetrating counterattacks. It did not lead to any real sharpness, but it was clear that the Scots know very well what they can achieve success with.
On 18 minutes, the ball was in the Rangers net, but the goal was not counted: Vanat, who managed to play on the rebound after Butland parried Vivcharenko's shot, was offside.
Rangers' response was no less dangerous - it was McCausland who shot from 20 meters, and the ball hit the Dinamo goal post. However, a couple of minutes later Pikhalenok shot from about the same position, and Butland with great difficulty converted the game to a corner kick.
Later on the game was played in a relatively equal struggle. "Dynamo possessed the ball a little more often, but it did not lead to a clear advantage. Nevertheless, on the 37th minute of the match the Bilo-Syni managed to open the score: Karavaev took Vanat to the right side of the Rangers penalty area with an excellent dissecting pass, the latter shot into the goalkeeper's box, where Yarmolenko headed the ball into the goal - 1:0. It is also important to note Shaparenko's long-range shot, after which the ball flew over the crossbar, but in the end, in the first half, the score remained unchanged.
At the very beginning of the second half "Rangers" almost equalized the score - it was Dessers who closed the flank pass into the penalty area of Dynamo with a dangerous shot into the far corner, but Buschan managed to save his team.
On the whole, the second half of the game was mostly equal and rather persistent: both teams were persistently looking for their chances in attack. But it didn't come to the real sharpness, as both Dynamo and Rangers acted quite reliably in defense. Around the 70th minute the Scots managed to gain a certain advantage, and in the compensated time of the second half they managed to level the score: after a flank pass in the penalty area Dynamo missed Dessers and the latter sent the ball into the goal with a shot from three meters - 1:1.
The return match between Dynamo and Rangers will take place next Tuesday, August 13, in Glasgow.
