This week the first playoff matches of the Champions League qualification round of the 2024/25 season are taking place. In one of them on Wednesday, August 21, Dynamo Kyiv and Austrian Salzburg met. The match was nominally a home game for the Ukrainian team, but because of the war it was held in Lublin at the Arena Lublin stadium.

"Salzburg started this match very actively and aggressively, and in the first minutes of the match Dynamo looked a bit nervous. However, the first goal moment was created just by Kyiv: on the 8th minute of the game as a result of a counterattack Shaparenko brought Yarmolenko to the right side of the Salzburg penalty area, for a moment he was, in fact, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the Dynamo captain did not dare to make a shot, began to handle the ball, and the moment was lost - Salzburg field players came up and played in the selection.
This episode calmed the Dynamo players, but did not cool down the Austrians, who continued to play an aggressive attacking game. However, there was not much urgency at the gates of the Bilo-Syni. In this segment of the match we can only note a long-range accurate shot by Gurn-Duat, which was confidently handled by Buschan, covering the ball.
And closer to the 30th minute of the match the game leveled off. And almost immediately Dynamo created a goal moment: after Karavaev's pass from the front line, Kabaev made a header to Vanat, the latter shot from the goalkeeper's area, but Bedu managed to block the shot at the last moment.
And in the turnover Salzburg scored. Popov left his zone, was beaten in the center of the field, and the Austrians clearly took advantage of the situation: Yeo with a cutting pass brought Dorgeles into the penalty area and he confidently shot the ball into the bottom corner of Dynamo's goal - 0:1.
Having achieved success, Salzburg increased the pressure, and on the 34th minute Kjergaard sent the ball into the "nine" of Kyiv gates with a long-range shot, and only Buschan's brilliant play saved Dynamo from the second missed goal. Shovkovskiy's charges immediately responded with a shot by Karavaev from the right side of the penalty area - the ball hit the outside of the Salzburg goal net. And that was the end of the first half.
But at the very beginning of the second half the score changed. Karavaev fouled Yeo in the Dynamo penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty, which was clearly realized by Kjergaard - 0:2.
"Dynamo immediately responded with a great counterattack, but Yarmolenko, making a prepared shot from the corner of the goalkeeper's area, sent the ball over the goal. However, Salzburg also created a very dangerous moment - it was Gluch who seemed to strike a fierce shot from 8 meters, but Buschan again saved his team by kicking the ball away.
In general, after the score became 0:2, "Salzburg" reorganized to play from defense, so in the remaining time of the match almost all the events took place in the half of the Austrian team's field. "Dynamo combined well, created chances, but every time Shovkovskiy's charges lacked something at the final stage of attacks - somewhere luck, somewhere centimeters to the ball. The apogee of it all was the moment in the 82nd minute of the match, when after a corner kick and Popov's shot hit the far post of Salzburg's goal. We should also mention Shaparenko's shot from outside the penalty area in the second half, which was handled by the Salzburg goalkeeper. As a result, the score in this match remained unchanged - 0:2.
The return match between Dynamo and Salzburg will take place next Tuesday, August 27, in Salzburg.
