The head coach of Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih, Yuriy Vernydub, commented on his team's 0-3 defeat to Spanish Betis in the return leg of the Conference League qualifying round playoffs, which took place yesterday at the field of the Ukrainian team's opponent. As a result of the two matches, Kryvbas (0: 2, 0: 3) dropped out of the tournament.
"I congratulate Betis on their victory and reaching the group stage of the Conference League. They are a very powerful and good team with many fast players. Although, if we take the game as a whole, we were not inferior to the opponent in the first 40 minutes. We conceded the first goal and then fell apart a bit.
Then we conceded the second and third goals in a few minutes. It was a blow to us. We talked to the team in the locker room and made some substitutions. We played the second half 0-0, and lost the first half 0-3. So I don't want to comment much.
These matches are a big school for our guys. They saw what level they need to strive for. This is a great football. It's a nice atmosphere: a packed stadium, lots of fans who passionately support the team and sing songs. It's incredible. I also want to thank you for the banner that was hung at the stadium, the Ukrainian flag, from the people of Seville in support of Ukraine.
I am very grateful for the support from myself, from the team, from all Ukrainians. Spain has been supporting Ukraine during these three difficult years. It is very nice. I want to say that your team, Betis, also had a Ukrainian player, Roman Zozulya. He is a good forward who spent a lot of time here. You also have a qualified coach, Manuel Pellegrini. I wish him all the best as well.
Unfortunately, only two teams will represent Ukraine in the group stage of European competitions this year. These are Shakhtar and Dynamo. I want to wish them a successful performance in Europe. The whole of Ukraine will be rooting for them," Vernydub said.
