The director of the Rukh academy, Volodymyr Bezubyak, talked about how Oleksiy Sych made it to the Ukrainian national team.
Volodymyr Bezubyak— In my opinion, Oleksiy could have made it to the first team even earlier, because we have the most problems on the right flank. He was the captain of the Olympic team and demonstrates stability at the club level. At Rukh, he feels like a veteran among the younger guys.
In high school, Oleksiy spent a year without football due to problems with his thigh. For a long time, he didn’t even train. He didn’t leave the boarding school, staying close to the boys. One can also recall the winter tournament when he had two teeth knocked out in the game against Shakhtar. Sych overcame it all!
At the Karpaty academy, he played in the center of the field, as a pure central midfielder with a creative direction, capable of taking charge and delivering a hidden pass. He retrained to the right flank at Rukh, starting from U-19, U-21, and in the first team. This is an optimal position that suits him, given his natural physical attributes and good ball handling. His previous experience adds variability, allowing him to enter the center, create in tight spaces, and play as a winger. Different tactics can be utilized with him," said the specialist.
