The legendary Ukrainian forward Andriy Shevchenko spoke about the goal of the Ballon d’Or tour he won 20 years ago, in December 2004.
— Twenty years ago, I had the honor of receiving the Ballon d’Or.
On the anniversary, I brought the award home to Ukraine. From today, the Ballon d’Or will be displayed in Shevchenko Park in Kyiv and will stay here until December 15, before setting off on a tour around the country the next day.
My goal is to inspire Ukrainian children to play football. To show proof that when you work hard, have a dream, and truly love what you do, everything will turn out! I believe that among them, the future holder of the Ballon d’Or is growing up,” Shevchenko wrote on his Facebook page.
