Shakhtar midfielder Tete, who plays for Lyon on loan, told Goal.com how he left Ukraine after the start of full-scale Russian aggression.
“It was very difficult. It happened early in the morning. My wife and I didn't think for a long time. We took a car with some things and left for Poland. At the border, it took us 22 hours to cover the last 2 kilometers. There were a lot of people. But we got out and felt relieved... It lasted two months.
Since I have a good financial condition, my wife and I were able to help many Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Poland.
I made grocery baskets with all the basic groceries and essentials and handed them out to the arrivals. We saw how many people came. Some have crossed the border and have nothing left because they have abandoned everything. It was okay to help them,” Tete said.
