Brentford striker Iain Toney has been diagnosed with a gambling addiction, according to the British edition of the BBC.

The written report of the independent commission that handed down the punishment states that Toney initially faced a 15-month ban, which was to take effect only from the next season. Such a lengthy suspension "would have adequately reflected the seriousness of the offences committed, including betting on his team's defeat, even though he did not play in them".
However, the player repented, and a psychiatrist diagnosed him with gambling addiction. Interestingly, at first the player deceived the independent commission, but later everything was clarified, and he sincerely confessed and accepted the punishment.
