Famous Ukrainian TV presenter Igor Tsyganik spoke about how Shakhtar Donetsk players perceive the team's new head coach Patrick van Leeuwen.
"It is not easy for van Leeuwen. As far as I know, there is still a trail of the previous coach there. Jovicevic and van Leeuwen have radically different approaches. Jovicevic is a democrat, he wanted to unite the team, he is communicative, smiles, jokes. That is how Jovicevic worked with the team. And the players got used to it.
And now came van Leeuwen, absolutely authoritarian coach, who does not tolerate the word "no". He starts to squeeze the players. Of course, the players do not like it. And it is noticeable not only on the football field, but also sounds in the statements of some players. They are not happy, but van Leeuwen has his own particular system and he is trying to implement it. Either he will break the players and make them do what he needs them to do, or the conflict will turn into a bad story," said Cyganik.
