The FIFA Council today adopted a decision on the possibility of allowing Russian youth national teams to participate in international competitions.
Photo: fifa.com"Following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 26 September 2023 to once again allow the participation of representative Russian youth teams at girls' and under-17 level, the FIFA Council approved the extension of this decision to the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, for which UEFA competitions serve as a qualifying stage, thus removing the disqualification of teams from Russia taking part in these tournaments. This is on the condition that these teams play under the name "Russian Football Union" rather than "Russia", in the absence of their national flag, their national anthem, their national uniforms and kit and instead play in neutral colours.
The FIFA Council reiterated its condemnation of Russia's illegal war in Ukraine and confirmed that the remaining provisions of the decision adopted on 28 February 2022 remain in force until the end of the conflict," FIFA said in a statement.
