The outstanding Portuguese footballer and football coach Artur Jorge died today in Lisbon at the age of 79.
During his coaching career, Jorge coached a dozen clubs and three national teams, but his most memorable success came in 1987, when his Porto team won the Champions Cup after beating Bayern Munich 2-1 in the Vienna final.
For our fans, it is memorable that before that final, the Portuguese had twice beaten Valery Lobanovsky's Dynamo in the second leg with the same score. For the White and Blues, the semi-final stage of this tournament is still their best achievement.
