After Belgium defeated Romania 2-0 in yesterday's Euro 2024 match, the situation in Group E has become extremely confusing: all four teams (Belgium, Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia) have three points each in the group stage.
At the same time, given the regulations of Euro-2024 in terms of determining the positions of the teams in case of equal points, it is known exactly under what conditions the Ukraine national team will leave the group.
Recall that in the 1/8 finals of Euro-2024 are the two best teams from the six groups, as well as four teams with the best performance from among those who finish third in their groups.
In the final round in Group "E" will play: Ukraine - Belgium, Slovakia - Romania.
Conditions under which the Ukraine national team will leave the group
Victory over Belgium. In this case, the Ukraine national team will leave the group at any result of the parallel match (a draw or a victory of Slovakia will give the "blue-yellow" the first place in the group, and with the victory of Romania the Ukrainian team will finish second).
A draw with Belgium. In this case, the maximum of the Ukrainian national team is the third place in the group. This will happen if the match Slovakia - Romania will end with a victory of one of the teams. Then "blue-yellow" with four points in the asset will almost certainly be among the teams that will go to the 1/8 finals from the third place.
If there is a draw in the match between Slovakia and Romania, Ukraine will be in last place (the standings of the group will retain their current form: 1.Romania, 2.Belgium, 3.Slovakia, 4.Ukraine).
Defeat by Belgium. In this case, the maximum of the Ukraine national team is also the third place in the group. This will happen if Romania beats Slovakia. But then the "blue-and-yellow" will have three points in the asset, and the probability that this will be enough to get out of the group from the third place will be much lower than in the variant with a draw with the Belgians.
We should add that it follows from the above that in the match Slovakia - Romania a draw will suit both these teams: with this result both of them will get out of the group, regardless of the result of the match Ukraine - Belgium.
