Former Dynamo defender Taras Mikhalyk shared what surprised him in yesterday’s match of the main round of the Europa League between Roma and Dynamo.
"I am convinced that the starting lineup of the Dynamo players was unexpected not only for me but for all football fans. With this choice, the head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi showed that for Kyivans, the calendar match of the UPL with Shakhtar on October 27 is now a priority. Then there will be a chance to see whether the manager made the right choice: if the Dynamo players win on Sunday, everyone will talk about the correct decision; otherwise, they will immediately recall the Roman experiment.
As for the confrontation itself, even without a whole group of key players, the guests put up a fight against the "city residents." It seemed that the game of "Roma" is still too complicated for their attacking leader Artem Dovbyk. This can only explain the lack of interaction between the Ukrainian and his teammates.
In my opinion, the Kyivans could have easily kept their net intact if it weren't for the childish mistake in the middle of the first half by stopper Taras Mykhavko. I don’t even know what prompted him to pull the Roma player by the shirt? Maybe it was because he was nutmegged? In that case, his foul can only be called a childish stunt. And worst of all, because of the penalty given by the defender, the entire team suffers.
Nevertheless, despite the latest failure, in my view, the Kyivans still have a chance to make it to the next round of the Europa League,” Mikhalyk said.
