Every day brings the world several famous people who have closely connected their lives with football.
Taras Mikhalyk (1983) — former central defender of “Volyn”. Born in the village of Lyubeshiv in the Volyn region. Taras played in clubs such as CSKA (Kyiv), “Zakarpattya” (Uzhhorod), and “Dynamo” (Kyiv). Two-time champion and holder of the Ukrainian Cup. Played 34 matches for the Ukraine national team, scored no goals.
Vladimir Onishchenko (1949) — former footballer who played as a forward. Born in Kyiv region, specifically in the village of Stechanka, which was removed from the accounting as a settlement after the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. He spent almost his entire career in Kyiv's “Dynamo”, except for the period from 1971 to 1973 when Vladimir played for Luhansk's “Zorya”. Played 36 matches for the USSR national team, scored 8 goals. After retiring from football, Onishchenko actively took up coaching. Until recently, he was an assistant to Mykhailo Fomenko in the coaching staff of the Ukraine national team.
Garrincha (1933−1983) — famous Brazilian footballer who played as a forward. Two-time world champion, who only played abroad once, and that was in the Colombian club “Atlético Junior”. Garrincha was known worldwide not only as an excellent scorer but also for having a congenital physical defect: one leg of the footballer was shorter than the other by several centimeters, which greatly helped him to deceive opponents on the field with feints. Garrincha died at the age of 49.
