Guardian journalist Jonathan Wilson believes that Madrid’s Real forward Kylian Mbappé is merely wasting time in the “whites” squad.
“Last season, the balance of Real’s forward positions looked perfect. Bellingham was placed in the center of the attack but stepped back a bit to create space for Vinícius on the left and Rodrygo on the right. Mbappé was added, and chaos ensued.
Mbappé undoubtedly possesses amazing abilities. Watching him tear apart Argentina at the 2018 World Cup was deeply moving. At that time, he was only 19 years old, but he was completely mature. It seemed there was nothing he couldn't achieve. However, from that moment, his potential stagnated. PSG, a club where Kylian rarely faced a challenge, was a step that nearly halted his development. In this team, in this league, and with his talent, he could do whatever he wanted. Everything was very easy, and as a result, in big Champions League matches, Mbappé disappeared from the field.
His time in Paris has definitely dulled Mbappé’s qualities; he has forgotten how to overcome problems on the field. I hope all this will return. But his case shows the problems even the most talented player faces if he chooses the wrong club. Given the tactical difficulties of this season and his poor performance, it is quite likely that Real also made the wrong choice with Mbappé,” wrote Wilson in particular.
