One of the best referees in the history of Romanian football Ion Crețușescu reacted harshly to recent statements made about him by the former head coach of Kyiv’s “Dynamo” Mircea Lucescu.
The 79-year-old specialist stated that in the 1980s Crețușescu “helped” “Steaua” achieve the necessary results. At that time, Lucescu was the head coach of Bucharest’s “Dynamo”.
“We built such a strong team at “Dynamo” that “Steaua” could only defeat us with the help of Crețușescu,” Lucescu stated on TVR.
Crețușescu did not delay in responding.
“What should I say to Lucescu, who is none other than the king of lies! He has deceived Romanian football more than anyone else.
Everyone knows what he has invented in football... How much Lucescu has done in our football in his lifetime, pff... I don’t want to talk about this anymore because it will be bad for him. Only Lucescu always tells us which trophy is won properly and which is not.
Lucescu says that I participated in some backstage games around matches? If I were such a referee, could I have officiated the Champions League final and be declared the second best referee in the world in 1995?
It has been 30 years since then, and no one from Romania has reached that level. These are the things they say about me, not that nonsense from Lucescu’s mouth,” Crețușescu’s words are quoted by Golazo.
