In the near future, the teams of the Italian Serie may be banned from using football shirts with the number 88. The national coordinator for anti-Semitism under the Prime Minister of Italy, Milena Santerini, proposed such a ban.
According to the official, the number 88 is a coded neo-Nazi greeting Heil Hitler, since the letter H is the eighth letter in the Latin alphabet. Santerini is confident that the ban on the use of this number will protect the moral and ethical values of the sport.
“Symbol 88 is the propaganda of death, suffering, transcendental violence and an ideology that introduces the concept of “grades” for people. Therefore, we call on Serie A to stop the use of jerseys from the number 88 by teams. Even if such a ban is not introduced, we call on the teams to voluntarily stop using this number,” said Santerini.
