Former striker of the Ukrainian national team Ivan Getsko in an interview Team1 talked about the new coach of the Blue-and-Yellows.
— Ivan Mikhailovich, how would you rate the performance of the Ukrainian national team in 2022?
- If according to a five-point system, then by three with a plus. The goals set were not achieved. Although we must understand that for the last six months we have not had time for football because of the war in which Russia attacked Ukraine. But at the same time, we found the strength and ability to preserve the national team and the atmosphere that was present in the national team.
— Why didn't the Blue-Yellows complete their assigned tasks?
- Somewhere out of luck. But at the same time, a number of mistakes were made, because in terms of composition, in terms of potential, we had to enter the world championship. I did not understand the decision of the coaching staff, for example, in the last matches of the League of Nations. The squad that entered the first match against the Scots failed the game to a certain extent. Another squad came to Armenia and gave speed and results. And realizing the full responsibility of the decisive duel with the same Scots, many performers were again released on the field who could not do anything in Glasgow. Yes, the match was a little different, but there was no freshness...
— Who was the best member of the Ukrainian national team in the 2022 World Cup qualifier playoffs and the Nations League?
- I would not single out anyone, because we had one common goal that was not achieved. It would be wrong to single out one or two players against this background. Everyone is to blame.
— Alexander Petrakov should continue to work with the main team of the country, or perhaps you see someone else in this post?
- I would like to see some new, ambitious coach appear in Petrakov's place, but today I don't see a better candidate yet. It's just that in this situation we cannot afford to invite any other serious specialist. Now it is difficult to lure someone to Ukraine, so you need to proceed from the realities, and they are such that Petrakov will not be the worst candidate for this post.
