Ukraine plans to join the joint bid of Spain and Portugal to host the final part of the 2030 World Cup, informs The Times.
According to the publication, the idea of such a project is that Ukraine will only host matches of one of the groups of the World Cup. And the rest of the World Cup matches will be held in Spain and Portugal.
It is reported that such an initiative was personally approved by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as the governments of Spain and Portugal. Moreover, the source claims that this issue can be resolved positively at the level of UEFA and the football associations of Spain and Portugal as early as next Wednesday.
We add that so far not a single application for hosting the 2030 World Cup has been confirmed by FIFA. In addition to Spain and Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece also bid (jointly) to host this World Cup. At the same time, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin expressed confidence that the bid for the right to host the 2030 World Cup would be won by Spain and Portugal.
