Dmytro Babelyuk, Lviv's Rukh doctor, commented in his Telegram on the growing popularity of snus use among football players.
"In Britain, an educational program for football players about the harm of snus, which is very popular among players of all leagues, is now gaining publicity.
Scientists analyzed the latest research and concluded that regular use of snus:
— increases the risk of injuries;
— slows down the growth of fractures;
— slows down the healing of soft tissues;
— increases the risk of heart problems;
— increases the risk of diabetes;
— affects the physical form;
— worsens the quality of sleep;
etc.
For those who don't know, snus is oral nicotine packed in a tea bag that is thrown under the upper lip. Players often use it to relax after training or relieve stress after games.
But, at the end of the day, it's nicotine. One packet of snus contains more nicotine than 3 cigarettes.
In Ukraine, the use of snus is very popular among players of all levels, so I believe that we should also raise these issues, because players are not always aware of the consequences for their health," wrote Babelyuk.
