Goalkeeper David de Gea has rejected Manchester United's first offer to extend his contract, The Athletic reports.
The Spanish goalkeeper's current contract with the Red Devils expires in June 2023. De Gea is currently the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world, earning a weekly salary of more than £375,000, but he is well aware that at the age of 32 he cannot demand such financial conditions. According to the newspaper, the club made a "good offer" to David, but the player was not convinced. He believes that the remuneration does not correspond to his performance on the football field this season.
Manchester United head coach Eric ten Hag is impressed with de Gea's performances during the season and wants him to continue working at Old Trafford, which is a key factor in the player's potential successful contract extension.
