The mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Volodymyr Kovalenko, shared the consequences of the bombing of the Kakhovka hydropower plant by the Russian occupants in the context of the city's sports infrastructure.
"It was flooded almost immediately. We have a unique sports infrastructure - 12 hectares. There are four football fields there: the central stadium of Energia, artificial turf, sawdust pitch. In addition to that the base of the Ukrainian national archery and hammer throwing team was flooded.
Just before the war, we had paid for the renovation of the main arena of the "Energia" for 85 million hryvnias. Our team had ambitious plans - we were preparing for the First League. Nova Kakhovka is a very sporty town and it was only with the beginning of the war that Energia suspended its activity. It is a shame. Moreover, we had begun construction of a sports complex worth up to 700 million for 22 sports - 8 thousand square meters.
A unique project that was under control of the country`s leadership! Novaya Kakhovka is close to the Crimea, and we had to demonstrate the achievements of the infrastructure in order to make the Crimeans understand that they made a big mistake when they accepted the Katsaks to their land. But, unfortunately, the entire sports infrastructure of Novaya Kakhovka is currently flooded," Kovalenko said.
