Cherkasy LNZ president Andriy Poltavets talked about his team's budget for the debut season of the Ukrainian championship and assessed the importance of spending decisions.
"We have not counted yet how much money we need for the season. Every day there are some additional expenses. If we were to sit and count, it would take us a month to figure it all out. We have a rough idea of how much it would cost for our company.
It is no secret that the budget for a medium-sized company is plus or minus three million dollars. This is a level that will allow them to fight for the middle, for survival and, under certain circumstances, for a slightly higher position. There are five or six clubs with budgets of $5 million and above, or $7 million and above.
There will be raises of 100-200 thousand. But it's not for the whole team. There will be guys who will get 30 and 50. If you have a contract for 100, and a player shows you are doing something, you can sign a new one, we will add 200, it's not a problem for us.
The salary will be increased for the coaches and players by about 50-60% compared to the first league. We need the right use of those funds, transfers, coaching decisions, and then, even with a budget of 3-4 million, you can theoretically compete for some high places in the European league. We understand that we need to spend somewhere between 3 and 5 million dollars for the club to gain a foothold in the UPL," Poltavets said.
