Ukraine abstained from voting during the UEFA Congress on the amendments to the organisation's statutes. Journalist Tariq Panja reported this on his Twitter page.
It is reported that the current UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin will still be able to run for a fourth time for the post of the head of the organisation. Corresponding changes were made to the UEFA statutes.
Ukraine abstained during the vote, while only England opposed such a decision.
As a result, Ceferin will be able to remain UEFA president until 2031. The Serbian functionary will hold this post for 12 years!
Recall that previously the rules stated that the UEFA president can not hold office for more than three consecutive terms. Now this rule has been cancelled, and Čeferin will be able to stand for election again in 2027.
