FIFA's decision to expand the 2026 World Cup to 48 participants will give Scotland a great chance to return to the finals after almost 30 years of absence, FIFA President Gianni Infantino joked.
- "Scotland did a great job qualifying for the European Championships. I will tell you a secret. We have decided to increase the number of participants in the final part of the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams to give the Scottish national team the opportunity to play in the final. Scotland will have a great chance and if they qualify, I'm sure the fans will have a lot of fun," Infantino said, as quoted by the BBC.
