Well-known Ukrainian journalist and commentator Roberto Morales shared his expectations from the 2nd round of the Euro 2024 group stage match between Slovakia and Ukraine in Group E, which will take place today in Dusseldorf.
"Two big sensations of the first round with completely opposite emotions. It is obvious and fair from all points of view to talk about the fall of Serhiy Rebrov's wards, who did not create a single goal-scoring chance in Munich (Roman Yaremchuk's chance can be considered as such only by half), and not a single sharp one until the score was 0: 3.
There is only one main conclusion from this - either the abnormal apathy is the state of the team as a whole, the result of a certain nervous breakdown of the players, or everything is really so bad with the team as a whole that nothing and no one can help this "corpse". However, even in the event of Ukraine's total failure, the objective high assessment of this team's potential will not change.
Today, there should be changes in the lineup - a goalkeeper, a left back, possibly a main forward and one of the supporters.
The Slovaks played the first match very well. They could constantly defend low, but at the same time possess the ball almost at the level of the opponent. I was particularly impressed with the efficiency of the midfield. If before the start the strength of this team looked rather doubtful even compared to Romania, then the first match Calzona's men played better than Ukraine's offenders.
Nevertheless, I believe in the recovery of our guys, even if it is far from magical, but sufficient to win," Morales said.
