Ukraine striker Roman Yaremchuk talks about yesterday's 0-0 match with Belgium in the 3rd round of the Euro 2024 group stage and his performance at the European Championships in general.
On the results of the championship for the Ukrainian national team:
- I believe that everything was decided in the first match (against Romania, 0:3 - ed.). Who to blame? Only ourselves in the first match. It's too late to find out anything now, we're already out. It's hard to talk, it's emotional.
Today we played well against a strong team, showed some good moments in the first half. I thank the team and the coaching staff for pleasing the fans for a few days.
About the five defenders and two forwards in the lineup for Belgium:
- We played not in a defensive scheme, but in an attacking one, with two strikers - for the first time under this coaching staff. I don't remember the last time we played like that.
We knew that the Belgians had problems in defense, but also that the attack was very strong: Lukaku is good at tackling all the balls, and de Bruyne picks them up. We left one more player behind and two more up front - that was the idea. I think it worked, but somewhere we did not score and did not realize the moments. But I think the plan worked.
How did the absence of Mudryk and Tsygankov affect you?
- It's too late to say. There are hungry players who prepare for every match. There are players who are ready to give everything. Unfortunately, it's a shame to go out with four points - we are the first team to go out like this. It hurts to go out like this, but it's not a shame.
On the course of the parallel match between Slovakia and Romania:
- We knew it was a draw, and it seems to me that the penalty kick was quite controversial. It's hard to say. They drew, we drew, but we are going home.
I want to thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine and all our Ukrainians. Thank you very much for your support! It is very much felt. We are nothing without you. We play only for you, so glory to the Armed Forces and glory to Ukraine!
