Midfielder of Kyiv’s Dynamo, Vitaliy Buyalsky, shared his thoughts on the importance of controlling weight and nutrition for footballers during a broadcast on the club’s YouTube channel.
— I think that everyone understands with age what they need to do before a game, how to eat, how to rest, and what time to go to bed. Each of us is responsible for our own recovery and nutrition.
— How exactly do you eat before matches?
— Usually, it’s boiled tongue with mashed potatoes or noodles. And in the morning — coffee with syrniki.
— Is it the case that the team allows itself sweets after a tough training session?
— After training — yes, no question about it. Those who have no weight issues do not deny themselves anything. But before a game, everyone has their own menu. In my opinion, you should go into the game feeling hungry.
— Is it ever the case that you can be fined for extra weight in the team?
— It doesn’t happen, but it needs to be done. If you don’t fine someone, they may not understand other sanctions. The thing is about professionalism. The more extra kilograms you have, the harder it will be for you; the greater the load on your joints. And this will affect your health in the long run.
